Musical terms
D.S al Fine - "from the sign to the end" - Play from the beginning to the D.S. al Fine. Go back to the sign and play to Fine.
Fine - end - indicating the end of a repeat (as in D.S. al Fine or D.C. al Fine) or the end of a piece
D. C. al Fine - Play from the beginning to the D.C al Fine. Go back to the beginning and play to Fine.
First ending - indicated by a line over a measure or measures with a number one and played on the first time through a piece
Second ending - indicated by a line over a measure or measures with a number two and played on the second, or repeated, time through a piece
Dynamics - degree of loudness or softness - volume
Forte - play loud
Mezzo forte - play medium loud (a bit softer than forte)
Mezzo piano - medium soft (a bit louder than piano)
Piano - play soft or quiet
Articulation - the way notes are joined to each other (examples are staccato, legato, accent, slur)
Staccato - play note short and separated
Legato - smooth and connected
Accent - stress, or added emphasis on a note
Slur - a curved line connecting two or more different notes, indicating those notes are to be played smooth and connected with no space between them
